VLC Media Player Description
VLC Media Player is a cross-platform multimedia player praised for its compatibility with almost any audio/video file format, ease of use and excellent functionality. It comes with a configurable interface, advanced video/audio options and media streaming with VLC acting as a server to stream media as well as receive.
VLC began as an academic project in 1996 and was developed to stream videos over the university campus.
VLC which stands for Video-LAN Client was later re-developed to be an all-in-one media player and is worked on by volunteer developers worldwide. Work began to rewrite VLC in 1998 and there were several beta releases before the official release of version 1.0.0 in 2009

Unfortunately, VLC is not yet offered with a universal binary, which means that the app now has two different versions: one for Intel Macs and one for M1 Macs. Once you update the VLC app for macOS to version 3.0.12, you must check for updates again and install version 3.0.12.1 — which is compiled for ARM machines.
